Limón Province has taken the No. 1 spot in Skyscanner’s global 2026 travel trends report, showing an impressive 289% surge in flight searches compared to the previous year. This Caribbean region—known for its lush jungles, pristine beaches, and protected natural areas—is now one of the world’s hottest emerging destinations.

According to millions of flight searches analyzed from January to June 2025, travelers are increasingly drawn to Limón for its untouched nature and eco-focused experiences. Publications like Travel + Leisure highlight its mix of wildlife, rainforests, and coastal beauty that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers.

One of the most iconic spots is Tortuguero National Park, famous for sea turtle nesting season. Its network of canals and dense rainforest hosts monkeys, countless birds, sloths, and other wildlife, making it ideal for guided boat tours and jungle hikes. Nearby, Cahuita National Park offers some of Costa Rica’s best coral reefs, perfect for snorkeling among colorful tropical fish and rays.

Limón’s beaches also shine. Playa Chiquita offers gentle waves and soft gold sand, while Playa Negra impresses with dramatic black volcanic sand. Punta Uva—affectionately known as Sloth Point—is a true Caribbean gem with palm-lined shores, hidden coves, and calm turquoise waters. The area bursts with wildlife: sloths in the treetops, toucans gliding through the canopy, iguanas basking in the sun, and incredibly lush greenery, much denser than in the drier Guanacaste region. The local microclimate is cooler and more refreshing, making it an especially comfortable destination year-round.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca — the Caribbean Coast’s Main Tourism Hub

Puerto Viejo is the beating heart of southern Limón — a vibrant town where Afro-Caribbean culture, international travelers, music, and cuisine blend into one of Costa Rica’s most unique coastal communities.

The town offers everything a visitor could need:
restaurants serving Caribbean dishes and fresh seafood, including coconut stew, jerk flavors, and catch of the day;
cafés, artisan shops, markets, supermarkets, and eco-friendly boutiques;
live music on the beaches and in open-air bars;
yoga studios, wellness centers, kayak rentals, paddleboards, and boat tours;
• a fun, relaxed transportation style — everyone gets around on bicycles.

Nature surrounds the town at every corner. It’s common to spot sloths, toucans, monkeys, and iguanas even while riding a bike through town. Just nearby awaits the Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, known for secluded beaches, rainforest trails, and abundant wildlife.
